As I’m sure you all know, the local elections took place on 3rd May and our candidate for the Thornton & Allerton ward of Bradford, Carl Finlan secured an impressive 2% of the vote! For a party that only launched last September - that’s a coup. Especially as we know that many people living in the area decided to vote tactically for the Conservatives to keep the BNP out. So well done to Carl and his team for all their hard work.
A huge thank you also goes to Ian and Lisa Wing at The Fleece Inn on Allerton Road who very kindly allowed us to take over their pub for a public meeting before the election. Copious amounts of Seabrook Crisps were consumed and Captain Sensible performed several of his own songs.
Carl appeared on the local news the day after the election, as well as in several articles in the Bradford Telegraph & Argus in the weeks before. Captain Sensible was interviewed at length on the BBC Radio Leeds Breakfast Show, and Pulse Radio. But the jewel in the crown was the article on the Blah! Party that made page three of The Guardian’s G2 magazine. It’s clear we’re being taken seriously and people are supporting our protest principles.
Now that Phoney Tony Blah! has announced his resignation and the undemocratic process of selecting our next PM has begun, a general election could be called as early as next year. And the Blah! Party needs to be ready for this. So we need to start identifying potential candidates across the country. From the local elections to the general election, the Blah! Party is now well and truly a force to be reckoned with!
